HDPE or high-density polyethylene is used for packaging for foods like milk and snacks containers as well as for strong chemicals like smart paints, acrylic paints, cleaning products, motor oil, shampoos and conditioners, soap bottles, acetone, detergents, and bleaches.
HDPE products are very safe and they are not known to transmit any chemicals into foods or drinks, which is why it is the plastic of choice for milk.
This high density plastic is:
resistant to acids, bases, alcohol and vegetable oils
impact resistant and resistant to sustained heat of about 110 degrees Celsius.
It does not bio-degrade in landfill settings, nor can it be composted, but it can be recycled into things like pallets, drainage pipes and packaging.

FLUORINATED PLASTIC BOTTLES TO PREVENT PANELLING
Panelling occurs when the pressure inside a plastic bottle becomes less than the air pressure outside. This causes the walls of the plastic bottle to start partially collapsing inward. Not only do the bottles distort, but the labels can peel off too. There are a number of causes of panelling such as: temperature or other environmental conditions like air pressure change, absorption of oxygen or other gas permeations and some kinds of fill processing. Plastic bottle panelling can be prevented by a process called fluorination. This is a process of treating the surface of the plastic bottles with fluorine gas.
After fluorination, the bottles are much less likely to distort in any way or panel. This is particularly useful for strong chemicals that will be stored in plastic bottles over a period of time. Fluorination can either take place during the manufacturing process or afterwards. Here at The Plastic Bottles Company we work closely with a fluorination company who can fluorinate our bottles after manufacture.
During this process, the bottles are placed in a sealed reactor and exposed to fluorine gases. There are various levels of fluorination available. The level that is chosen depends on the kind of plastic that is required and the chemicals that the bottles are being used for and the length of storage time. Here is a list of products that might require fluorinated plastic to prevent panelling: acetone lubricants, plant growing chemicals, cleaning agents, degreasing agents, essential oils, car products including additives, wood treatment products, paint thinners, weed killers.
This is by no means a complete list and because there are so many variables affecting the integrity of your plastic bottle, we urge you to test our bottles with your product over time. At this time of writing, fluorination is only available for HDPE plastic unfortunately and not PET plastic.
